Summary of Role The Project Worker role is designed for someone who has a passion for working face to face with young people with extremely complex needs who often can’t access mainstream housing and homeless services. To provide high-quality, person-centred support to vulnerable young people aged 16–25 experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness, including those with complex and multiple needs such as substance misuse, mental health challenges, offending behaviours, trauma histories, and high dependency support requirements. You will be the first point of contact with services and support young people on a one-to-one basis, tailoring the support to their individual needs. By being a continued single point of contact you will support them in their recovery to find employment, undertake training, cultivate positive social circles and develop the necessary skills to maintain accommodation and independence, ultimately avoiding a return to homelessness. The project worker will deliver intensive housing-related support across emergency accommodation, short-term supported accommodation, and tenancy sustainment services, empowering young people to develop independent living skills, improve wellbeing, reduce risk, and achieve positive long-term outcomes. You will be based in a 24/7 support service working on a rota basis - this includes evening and weekends as required. The role will require some bank holiday working too. Key Accountabilities Project worker Responsibilities Safeguarding Promote and safeguard the welfare of young people at all times Undertake strengths-based wellbeing and safety assessments, developing person- centred goals. Respond to safeguarding concerns, incidents, including attending strategy meetings Escalate concerns promptly in line with organisational safeguarding procedures. work within multi-agency safeguarding frameworks. Respond calmly and professionally to crisis situations Provide de-escalation and immediate practical / emotional support Work flexibly to meet urgent support needs. Person-Centred and Trauma-Informed working practice Hold and manage a structured caseload Deliver outcome-focused keywork sessions Complete and Review wellbeing and safety assessments Promote emotional regulation, resilience, and autonomy Ensure young people’s wishes, feelings, and strengths are included in all support planning Complex Needs Support Work intensively with young people presenting High dependency drug and alcohol misuse, Severe and enduring mental health needs, Dual diagnosis, Trauma-related behaviours, Self-harm and, suicide risk, Exploitation risks, Offending behaviour Deliver harm reduction interventions and crisis management support. Recognise deterioration in mental health and respond appropriately through referral pathways. Promote engagement with specialist substance misuse and mental health services. Multi-Agency Meeting Planning and Attendance Prepare and attend professional meetings relating to young people in service including completing reports. Build effective partnerships with Local authorities, social services, Mental health teams, Drug and alcohol services, Probation/youth offending teams, Education and employment providers, Health professionals. Advocate for the young person’s voice and best interests Record agreed actions and ensure follow-up implementation Environmental Safety and Residential Contribution Maintain a safe and clean environment, including undertaking cleaning tasks in residential projects and dispersed accommodation. Support young people to maintain communal and personal spaces. Record regular health & safety checks in all accommodation. Supporting Young People’s Development and Independence Encourage education, employment, and training engagement Accompany young people to appointments where appropriate. Promote independence in managing appointments and responsibilities Support young people to complete independent living skills keywork packages Recording, Reporting, and Inspection Readiness Complete accurate case notes, incident reports, keywork records, wellbeing and safety assessments. Provide comprehensive and factual handover notes highlighting safeguarding, environmental, and welfare updates. Maintain records that are GDPR-compliant and inspection-ready Hold a caseload of young people with varying levels of complex support needs. Working as Part of a Team and Lone Working Team Working: Collaborate with team members including Managers, Attend staff team meetings and contribute to young people risk management, service improvement, and reflective practice discussions Share information and support colleagues while maintaining confidentiality and professional boundaries To work as part of a team to deliver a 24-hour provision that houses and supports vulnerable homeless young people Travel between services and locations is essential for the job role. Lone Working Follow lone working procedures, maintaining safety and vigilance for young people and staff Seek support from on-call managers when needed Make professional, proportionate decisions and maintain accurate records of actions taken Other Duties As a team, we are committed to supporting each other and to professionally represent Roundabout to external agencies, building good links and promote the service across Rotherham. To take responsibility to keep skills and knowledge up to date by attending relevant training to enhance skills and practice. Professional Standards Demonstrate strong safeguarding knowledge and competence Adhere and comply with organisational policies Maintain high standards of hygiene, cleanliness, and environmental safety Communicate effectively with in the team and to professional partners / providers Uphold professional boundaries, integrity, and ethical practice Engage in reflective practice and contribute to service development Person Specification - Specific Knowledge, Experience & Skills Transferable skills and/or understanding of complex young people facing homelessness/rough sleeping or a similar client group Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative, supporting colleagues where necessary and build positive working relationships with external providers Knowledge of the safeguarding process, in relation to working with vulnerable/complex young people Experience of advocating on behalf of clients, challenging external services where necessary to meet the needs of young people Experience of undertaking accurate and thorough risk assessments and addressing safety concerns through mitigating identified risks Ability to motivate and enable young people to achieve their goals and aspirations working in a strength-based approach Promote a creative and flexible way of working to ensure the service is accessible for complex young people. Excellent IT skills, including a working knowledge of database recording systems and the ability to maintain appropriate records and monitoring systems, including tailored support plans Ability to work directly with young people in a residential setting and in the community working face to face to engage complex young people in supporting them to achieve there identified goals. Ability to work directly with complex young people in the community supporting their wellbeing and managing the H&S of dispersed properties in the community. Ability to Build effective partnerships relating to supporting young people and contribute to Multi-Agency Meetings. Personal Attributes Demonstrating a positive approach and understanding of a range of lifestyle choices and address this in a strength-based approach Ability to be emotionally resilient, adapting in the face of challenging circumstances from vulnerable / complex young people. Act as a reflective practitioner to take responsibility for sharing skills and knowledge to improve the service and support for young people.
