Curriculum Leader of Expressive Arts – Fixed Term Maternity Cover 2026–2027
James Gillespie's High School, Warrender Park Road, Edinburgh – a modern secondary school with approximately 1,800 pupils and state‑of‑the‑art facilities for the arts.
Role Summary Lead the Expressive Arts curriculum across the senior school. Design and deliver engaging lessons, support teachers, coordinate assessment and maintain relationships with the wider school community.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop, review and implement a high quality Expressive Arts curriculum in line with national standards.
* Design and deliver bold, innovative lessons across the senior school and mentor junior teachers.
* Coordinate assessment, support pupil progress and contribute to whole‑school assessment meetings.
* Maintain close working relationships with parents, local community partners and external arts bodies.
* Support and develop inclusive and creative learning environments for all pupils.
* Actively participate in whole‑school planning and professional learning communities.
Desired Qualifications and Experience
* Qualified teacher with strong background in Expressive Arts.
* Demonstrated experience in curriculum design, lesson delivery and assessment.
* Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
* Experience leading change and mentoring junior staff.
* Commitment to inclusion, diversity and pupil voice.
Contract Details
Salary: £66,606
Hours: 35 per week
Fixed term – January 2026 to January 2027. Salary in accordance with the Scheme of Salaries and Conditions of Service for Teaching Staff in School Education.
