Job Summary
We are recruiting for a Locum Consultant in General Medicine to join Isle of Wight NHS Trust. You should share our passion and drive to ensure patients receive quality and compassionate care and help the Trust continue its journey towards "great people, great place".
Key Responsibilities
* Diagnose and treat general medical in‑patients.
* Provide on‑call cover on a 1:11 weekday rota; available 22:00–08:00 for advice and to attend if required.
* Undertake evening and morning weekday ward rounds (acute physicians handle these) and participate in acute and GIM weekend rounds as outlined in the job plan.
Qualifications and Experience
* Essential: MBBS or equivalent, membership with the relevant Royal College for the speciality, GMC registration and licence to practice, entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Geriatrics and general medicine via CCT, CESR or European Community rights.
* Completed a recognised training programme in General Internal Medicine.
* High level of clinical experience and competence in GIM.
* IT skills.
Teaching, Audit and Research, Motivation, Management and Personal Skills
* Teaching: Experience of teaching and training undergraduates, post‑graduates and junior medical staff.
* Audit and Research: Evidence of participation in clinical audit relevant to the specialty.
* Motivation: Commitment to the development of a high‑quality, cost‑effective service.
* Management: Knowledge and understanding of current NHS issues; ability to develop services.
* Personal Skills: Energy and enthusiasm, ability to work under pressure, enquiring and critical approach to work, caring attitude to patients, effective communication with colleagues, patients, relatives, GPs, nurses and other staff and agencies, commitment to continuing medical education and professional development.

This post requires a Disclosure and Barring Service check under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975. A submission for Disclosure will be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
Benefits and Working Arrangements
* Salary: £109,725 to £145,478 per annum.
* Contract: Fixed‑term, 1 year.
* Working pattern: Full‑time.
* Location: St Marys Hospital, Parkhurst Road, Newport, PO30 5TG, United Kingdom.
