Job Description:
This post is offered on a full-time (10 PA) basis, although less than full-time applications will be considered.
The role will be primarily based at the Eye Centre at Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield, with services also provided at Dewsbury and District Hospital and Pontefract General Infirmary. Most staff work across two sites, and travel between sites during the day is reflected in the job plan. The department offers secretarial support, office accommodation, and IT facilities in the Eye Centre, supported by optometrists, orthoptists, specialist nurses, and Eye Clinic Liaison Officers.
Main duties include:
* Supporting General Ophthalmology with a subspecialty interest in Acute Eye Service or other relevant subspecialty.
* Delivering outpatient clinics and day case surgeries.
* Managing workload, including approximately 12 face-to-face patients, 24 virtual clinic patients, and about 7 cataract cases in theatre.
* Participating in urgent and emergency care duties, including out-of-hours on-call schedules, with adherence to working time regulations for safe working.
* Sharing on-call duties with 8 colleagues on a 1:8.5 rota, assessed as 0.89 PA.
* Engaging in 1.5 Core Supporting Professional Activities, with an additional 0.5 PA for roles like service lead, including teaching or leadership responsibilities.

Job responsibilities:

GMC Registration:
* Full GMC registration with a license to practice
* Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register
Qualifications:
* Medical degree from a recognized medical school
* FRCOphth / FRCS or equivalent
* Fellowship in Acute Eye Service
* Academic prizes, audit or case presentations, teaching qualifications/awards
Additional qualities include analytical problem-solving, good time management, organizational skills, service development contributions, awareness of UK healthcare policies, and experience managing acute eye patients, with specific educational interests or project work.
