Discover a new kind of career in healthcare as a functional specialist.
Are you working in healthcare and looking for a change? If you’re a nurse (RGN, RMN or RNLD), occupational therapist, physiotherapist, or paramedic, you could use your skills differently as a functional specialist.
Their functional specialists write reports that help the Department for Communities (DfC) make important decisions about a person’s health and care.
Day to Day
You will conduct initial reviews, assessments (paper-based, face-to-face, video, or telephone) to evaluate how a claimant’s health condition or disability affects their daily life.
Our client's hybrid model means you’ll be based at home and assigned to work from your nearest assessment centre on a rota basis for face-to-face assessments. You’ll also spend time in our centres or offices for team catch-ups or in-person training.
To create reports, you will observe and report on an individual’s ability to carry out activities, analyzing clinical information and supporting evidence. You will produce three comprehensive reports (3,000-4,000 words each) daily, providing detailed evidence and justification to support the DWP in decision-making.
Our Offer
This is a challenging role, quite different from other healthcare professions. Our client values your training and development. You’ll start with a 6-week training program (Mon-Fri, 9am-5pm) with time for self-development.
* The first six months can be the most difficult; we’ll support you with close mentorship as you develop.
* A competitive basic salary of £38,500, with potential to rise to £39,900 based on performance.
Your Requirements
* One year's post-registration experience as a nurse, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, or paramedic.
* Fully registered with a relevant UK regulatory body (NMC, HCPC, or others), without restrictions or conditions, with a valid PIN.
* Excellent observational and communication skills, with the ability to listen, empathize, and explore deeper.
* Typing speed of at least 30 words per minute.
