Job Title: Editorial Assistant

Location: Peterborough (+ hybrid flexible working)

Salary: £24,000pa (pro rata)

Hours: 35 hours per week

Contract: Fixed Term (January 13- June 17th 2026)

Overview of the Role:

We are looking to recruit a self-starting and enthusiastic Editorial Assistant on a short-term fixed contract within the RHS Editorial team, working primarily on the RHS website RHS.org.uk but also on The Garden magazine and with the Gardening With The RHS podcast and the - The Garden app the Grow app and other RHS publications

As Editorial Assistant you will support the creation, maintenance, planning and administration creation of content primarily across the RHS’s digital platforms.


This is an excellent opportunity for someone wanting to progress in a cross-platform gardening media environment with a team of experienced digital content editors, writers and journalists. The role needs someone willing to take on any task needed in a busy fast paced environment and has potential for a self-starter to grow the role.


Key responsibilities:

* Support the editorial team to create content for The Garden magazine, the RHS website and other editorial platforms.


* Assist website Digital Content Editors to write, template content, upload images, captions, events and text amendments to the RHS website.



* Assist the team by responding to stakeholder emails in the team inbox and actioning editorial requests.


* Provide administrative support for the editorial team.


* Use data and digital tools to assess and improve content across the website


Person specification

We are looking for a strong self-starter who can focus on the job and prioritise conflicting workloads independently, who is passionate about the RHS strategy and mission, the environment and someone who wants to help make gardening available for everyone.


Essential:

* A desire to progress into a career in cross platform journalism.
* Well organised and strong time management skills, who meets deadlines
* Strong teamwork, collaborative and problem-solving skills.
* Experience using Microsoft Office applications
* Excellent attention to detail.
* Ability to be flexible with ability to manage a varied and changing workload.
* Good verbal and written communicator, a strong collaborator with a positive outlook.


Desirable:

* A journalism qualification.
* An interest in gardening.
* Aware of the current media landscape e.g. social media trends.
* A good eye for design and imagery.
* Willingness to to pitch ideas and write articles for both the website and magazine.
* Use of digital content management systems.
* Experience of using of Photoshop.
* Experience writing for magazines or the web.
