This is a newly created role, designed to take ownership of a complex and high-value Local Authority and social funding ledger. COMPANY
Our client is a well-established, values-driven organisation operating nationally within the care and support sector.
The organisation delivers essential services to vulnerable individuals across the UK and operates within a challenging but rewarding environment, balancing financial sustainability with high‑quality service delivery.
They are currently investing in new systems and strengthening internal processes, creating an opportunity for someone to join at a key point and help shape how the function operates moving forward.
OPPORTUNITY
As Senior Credit Controller, you will take ownership of a large and complex Local Authority and social funding ledger, working closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to improve collection performance and reduce aged debt.
You will also play an important role in mentoring a junior team member and contributing to wider process improvements across the function.
Key responsibilities include:
* Managing and reducing a high-value Local Authority debt portfolio
* Monitoring aged debt and driving proactive, persistent collection activity
* Investigating and resolving complex funding and payment queries
* Building strong relationships with Local Authorities, NHS contacts and internal operational teams
* Acting as a key escalation point for complex or sensitive issues
* Mentoring and supporting a Credit Control Assistant
* Working closely with AR, finance and operational teams to ensure accurate billing and documentation
* Providing insight and reporting on debt performance and trends
* Identifying process improvements and supporting the move toward more automated, efficient systems
This role sits at the heart of an evolving credit control function, with the opportunity to influence how processes are shaped going forward.
PERSON
We’re looking for a driven and resilient credit professional who thrives on ownership and enjoys working in a complex, stakeholder‑led environment.
You will bring:
* Strong credit control experience within a fast‑paced environment
* Experience managing complex or high‑value ledgers
* Excellent communication skills, with the ability to handle sensitive conversations with empathy
* A proactive, tenacious approach to debt collection and problem‑solving
* Confidence to challenge processes and drive improvements
* Experience mentoring or supporting junior team members
Experience working with Local Authorities, NHS or within a care / not‑for‑profit environment would be highly advantageous, but strong commercial candidates with the right mindset and motivation will also be considered.
A genuine interest in working within a purpose‑led organisation is key.
OFFER
A rewarding opportunity within a national organisation where your work directly supports the delivery of essential services:
