Site Support Officer

This pivotal role within the Operations team provides a confidential and comprehensive patient‑centred service regarding patient flow, supporting the delivery of key performance targets. The post holder works with all adult inpatient services to identify and place patients appropriately and timely, working to agreed protocols and procedures.
Working with a minimum of supervision, the post holder coordinates activities with team members to deliver an efficient service and will spend periods of time working independently. The role requires initiative, confidentiality and a direct positive contribution to bed‑management service.
Main duties of the job
* Focus on patient flow through the emergency pathway
* Understand the ED Clinical Quality Indicators including the criteria for 4‑hour and 12‑hour targets and support specialist teams to achieve these
* Support proactive bed allocation, prioritising patient safety at all times
* Collate and record daily data on patient flow and performance for internal and external reporting
* Interpret and convey information accurately, respond to changing priorities and develop systems to improve effectiveness
* Inform the nurse in charge, manager of the day and Clinical Site Manager about changing pressures within ED/MAU/SAU/MINORS and medical/specialised review requirements

Job responsibilities
* Escalate delays in a patient's journey across the organisation to the relevant group
* Assist in organising urgent admissions and liaise professionally with all involved parties
* Support the physical movement of patients to promote good care, experience and national performance standards
* Coordinate the workload of the Transfer Team to ensure flow and delivery of National Targets
* Maintain real‑time bed status information to safeguard patient experience
* Communicate comprehensive AM/PM handover to night teams, detailing capacity and future flow
* Provide effective internal and external communication with agencies (PTS, IDT and private ambulance service)
* Act as Medical Bed Capacity Manager for all specialties daily from 15:00 – 19:30, including weekends and bank holidays
