Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide tailored support to pupils with ASD and behavioural needs, both in class and on a 1:1 or small group basis.
* Assist the class teacher in the planning and delivery of lessons and behaviour management strategies.
* Implement individual education plans (IEPs), communication methods (e.g., PECS, Makaton), and behaviour support plans.
* Foster a safe, nurturing, and inclusive classroom environment.
* Monitor and record students' progress, behaviour, and emotional wellbeing.
* Work closely with therapists, SENCOs, and parents/carers to ensure a holistic approach to support.
* Assist with personal care where required (training provided).
Essential Requirements:
* Previous experience working with children or young people with ASD and/or challenging behaviour.
* A calm, empathetic, and resilient approach to managing behaviour and emotional regulation.
* Strong communication and teamwork skills.
* Ability to work flexibly under the direction of the class teacher and SEN staff.
* Basic understanding of safeguarding and child protection (training will be provided).
Desirable Qualifications and Skills:
* Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent).
* Team Teach / Positive Handling training.
* Knowledge of Makaton, PECS, or TEACCH framework.
* Experience in an SEN school or alternative provision.
