The Opportunity
You will be part of an experienced civils team in Exeter, working across a number of development and road infrastructure projects in the South West. Your development will include using design software and your own engineering ingenuity to plan and coordinate drainage, utility, and road designs. You will work within an engineering team liaising with clients, co-professionals, and other disciplines across our business. You will gain experience of all project stages, including site visits and high contact time with your team, to become a capable civil engineer in your own right.
The Exeter Civils team are a group of passionate, talented, and welcoming individuals with extensive expertise. The team are based in the office full time, providing continuous support and exposure to a variety of disciplines within the company. You will work in a modern office with a positive staff ethos, where people are put first.
Our team delivers a diverse mix of projects, continually developing new skills with a primary focus on environmentally sensitive solutions, prioritising reuse over building new to mitigate environmental impacts. Projects include public and private sector schemes such as the largest gigafactory in Europe, large-scale infrastructure projects with the West of England Combined Authority framework, and the Bus Service Improvement Plan in North Somerset.
Example Responsibilities
* Contribute to the development of concept, preliminary, and detailed scheme designs.
* Prepare drawing packages, design reports, specifications, and technical notes.
* Complete engineering design work and calculations, including preparing 3D design models, designing and evaluating drainage networks, and designing minor structures.
* Research the latest technologies and construction techniques, playing a key role in minimising environmental impacts.
* Assist in the management of Health and Safety risks, proactively identifying and mitigating potential issues.
* Prepare cost estimates and support clients in value engineering within time, cost, and environmental constraints.
* Develop an understanding of infrastructure stakeholders by collaborating with professionals from other organisations and disciplines.
* Manage and conduct on-site surveys and assessments to inform designs.
* Prepare carbon emission calculations and workbooks to document project carbon outputs.
About You
We value potential over past experience. You will have at minimum a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and a keen interest in the Infrastructure sector. You will also be:

Working Pattern
Graduates are asked to attend the office 4 days per week to ensure sufficient time with the team and appropriate support.
