Job overview

Due to additional funding, there is an exciting opportunity to expand the already well-established Special school and complex needs nursing team in Redbridge.

We are looking for registered Paediatric nurses, who will work as a member of the Specialist School Nursing Team, supporting a defined caseload of children and young people aged 3-19 years with complex healthcare needs and disabilities within the community and school settings. You will assess, manage, plan and deliver care, being professionally and legally accountable

The post holder will work in schools, with children with a range of learning disabilities and complex health needs, to carry out clinical procedures in partnership with other professionals and agencies in order to meet identified care needs. The nursing team establish and maintain effective communication, working closely with parents and carers, education and other agencies to ensure the children achieve their full potential in school.

Main duties of the job

1 To work collaboratively with the children, parents and carers to achieve best possible health and wellbeing outcomes.

To assess the health needs of children and school community, agree individual and school health plans and deliver these through multidisciplinary partnerships.

To provide skilled, effective, evidenced based nursing care for children with complex care needs including technology dependent children.

To promote the optimum use of available resources and to secure the highest standards of care to school aged children.

To deliver and manage training needs of school and health staff in the delivery of health care to children in the school, through the agreed competency based training packages, including assessment and sign off competency of staff members.

To manage the provision of continence products to children in the school.

Working as part of a team of special school and complex needs nurses supporting each other and ensuring the health needs of the children are met.

The service covers all year through. Core service hours are Monday-Friday, 9-5.

4-6 weekly supervision with team lead, and whole team meetings. 3 monthly and ad-hoc safeguarding supervision.

Starting with NELFT

NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment.As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop-in sessions focusing on engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

Probationary Period

This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).

High-Cost Area Supplement

This post also attracts payment for High-Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (minimum payment of £4,714 and a maximum payment of £5,941) pro rata for part time staff.

1. Working as part of the Special schools and complex needs nursing team.

2. Identify and assess the health needs of school aged children. To work in partnership with children and their families, and all other health, education and social care professionals to achieve the best possible health and wellbeing outcomes.

3. Provide a continuum of support according to need.

4. Working autonomously with an identified caseload.

1. Registered Paediatric Nurse with current NMC registration
2. 2 years minimum post registration experience
3. Evidence of working with children/young people with complex needs
