We are seeking an
experienced and resilient Teaching Assistant
to support a
primary school pupil with SEMH needs
on a 2:1 basis
within a well-supported primary school setting. To work Monday to Friday, 8:30 - 15:30 to start immediately.
Role Overview
~2:1 SEMH support for a KS1 pupil
~ Working within a
structured behaviour support plan
~ Supporting emotional regulation, engagement in learning, and transitions
~ Use of
movement breaks, physical activity, learning tasks and reward systems
~ Part of a
closely coordinated staff team
with senior leadership oversight
Support Structure
~2:1 staffing model
~ Headteacher and Deputy Head actively involved
~ Risk assessments and strategies already in place
~ Ongoing guidance and support available
About the Needs
SEMH-related behaviours that can be
physically challenging
Requires adults who can:
Maintain calm, consistent boundaries
Use de-escalation strategies effectively
Support regulation through structured activity
~ Clear expectations and routines are essential
The Ideal Candidate
Proven experience supporting pupils with
SEMH and challenging behaviour
Confident, emotionally resilient and consistent in approach
Strong understanding of safeguarding and behaviour management
Comfortable working as part of a 2:1 team model
Able to build positive, professional relationships with pupils and staff
This role requires a confident and experienced SEMH Teaching Assistant and is not suitable for those new to the role or without relevant experience.
Applicants must be aware of the challenging nature of the placement.
