Job Description
Senior Business Development Manager
Location: Home-based (with access to London)
Contract: Full-time or 4 days per week
Salary: Up to £50,000 FTE + pension + discretionary company bonus
Role Overview
A specialist professional services firm operating within the UK financial services market is seeking a Senior Business Development Manager to support its continued growth. This is a senior, relationship-led role requiring strong commercial judgement, credibility and the ability to engage confidently with lenders, funders and investors at executive level.
This is not a traditional sales role. The successful candidate will act as the initial point of engagement for complex client conversations, helping to shape problems, build trust and introduce internal technical specialists to design and deliver appropriate solutions. The role is consultative in nature, with a focus on governance, oversight and long-term client relationships rather than product-led selling.
The purpose of the role is to strengthen early-stage engagement with lenders, funders and investors, ensuring opportunities are shaped effectively, commercially balanced, and aligned with the firm’s expertise before delivery teams are engaged.
The Senior Business Development Manager will play a critical role in supporting sustainable growth, expanding existing client relationships, and helping the business respond thoughtfully to inbound demand in a dynamic and evolving market.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead senior-level, consultative conversations with lenders, funders and investors
* Develop and manage relationships across existing, dormant and new client accounts
* Identify and progress new business opportunities through networking, meetings, events and inbound enquiries
* Act as the front door to the business, shaping early-stage discussions and introducing technical and client services teams as required
* Collaborate with internal specialists to define scope, proposals and delivery models
* Maintain a commercially balanced approach to pricing, value and margin discussions
* Attend industry conferences, exhibitions and market events to build market presence and intelligence
* Contribute market insight and client feedback to support wider business development and marketing activity
* Take ownership of a personal account portfolio, ensuring high-quality, long-term relationships
* Operate autonomously while working collaboratively across the wider organisation
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will bring credibility, gravitas and sound judgement, with experience operating in or alongside financial services environments.
Essential attributes include:
* Strong understanding of governance, controls, oversight and commercial decision-making within financial services or lending-related businesses
* Proven ability to engage senior stakeholders and conduct balanced, commercially aware discussions
* A consultative mindset with the ability to listen, diagnose needs and shape solutions
* Confidence navigating complex organisations and aligning multiple stakeholders
* Professional communication and presentation skills appropriate for executive audiences
Relevant background may include experience in:
* Treasury, lending services, portfolio management, audit, risk or advisory functions
* Environments involving funding structures, capital flows or financial oversight
* Roles requiring independent judgement and trusted advisory capability
