Deputy Director: Unity Programme- Technology Design and Transformation
Locations: Glasgow, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle
SCS1: Salary £81k to £107k
The Unity Programme supports HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC), Department of Transport (DfT) and the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) and their Executive Agencies and Arm’s Length Bodies, across circa 100,000 civil servants, to transform business critical HR, Finance and procurement services.
The programme supports corporate functions within the three government Departments to transform via the introduction of a range of SAP technologies, including Success Factors, S4Hana, Ariba, Signavio and Qualtrics. As a high value and complex programme, Unity is classed as a Government Major Programme. This means the programme will be monitored and audited by HMG’s Infrastructure and Projects Authority, with regular engagement with both Cabinet Office and HM Treasury.
The Deputy Director for Unity Technology Design and Transformation will work closely with the Unity Programme Director and wider programme peers to deliver optimised and accessible tech solutions to the business and colleagues across finance, HR and procurement. A critical part of our technology transformation is the continued development of our enterprise estate and the effective exploitation of our SAP platform.
This change will support corporate services delivery across the three Departments who will adopt technology best practice and drive critical efficiencies and performance improvements across our shared services capability, delivering an ERP estate that will assist millions of Britons every day.
Responsibilities & Requirements
* Key responsibilities: Lead and shape technology design and transformation across Unity’s ERP estate; drive the delivery of SAP-based solutions across HR, procurement and finance; partner with the Unity Programme Director and senior stakeholders to implement enterprise-wide tech strategies.
* Lead on the continued development of the enterprise estate and the adoption of SAP technologies; manage technical expenditure and vendor relationships to ensure value and fiscal control.
* Provide credible technical leadership across the cluster and wider Civil Service, including engagement with DSIT, Cabinet Office and HMT.
* Demonstrate success in leading tech change and implementing ERP solutions in complex organisations (ideally SAP across HR, Procurement, Finance).
* Communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels and coach/ develop team members to reach their potential.
* Manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritise to deliver results at pace.
Qualifications & Experience
* Extensive experience as a technology leader in ERP systems change (ideally SAP).
* Proven track record guiding large teams through significant transformation in large-scale organisations.
* Strong commercial and financial experience to engage vendors and maintain fiscal control of technical expenditure.
* Experience delivering high-profile tech transformation with credibility across the Civil Service.
As our new Deputy Director of Technology Design and Transformation, you will lead on the critical decisions we make that are consistent with the overall strategic Unity roadmap, acting as an authoritative and strategic technology leader across an array of critical and high-performing functions. You will sit at the very heart of this high-profile technical transformation which will ensure that a future Civil Service becomes more effective in supporting the nation.
As an established expert and leader within ERP Systems change and advancement (Ideally SAP), you will have extensive experience of guiding a large team and complex organisation through a significant period of transformation.
This role is open to public sector and private sector candidates and would suit someone with experience of working inside large scale organisations. Your work and legacy will affect millions of people and raise your profile across Government to the highest levels as an expert in ERP/SAP and high-profile tech transformation leadership.
