Overview

It is an exciting time to join Northumberland County Council Adult Social Care (ASC) as we commence recruitment of Newly Qualified Social Workers into the Northumberland Adult Social Work Academy. The Academy is recognised as an exemplar of national best practice and offers an innovative, bespoke training programme that commences in September 2026.


Responsibilities

* Complete a full‑time Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE) programme designed to develop skills, competencies and confidence.
* Work with experienced managers and ASYE assessors to apply social work values to a carefully selected caseload.
* Develop knowledge of the legislative frameworks concerning ASC, including the Care Act, Mental Capacity Act and Mental Health Act.
* Receive reflective supervision on a regular basis to support the application of theory to practice.
* Participate in training, group supervision and mentoring.
* When numbers allow, engage in short‑term non‑social worker roles to bridge the gap between university and qualification.


Essential Criteria

* Working towards or having completed a Social Work Degree.
* Working towards successful registration with Social Work England.
* A full UK driving licence with access to a vehicle.
