Northwich
Canal & River Trust
Posted: 8 July
Offer description

Are you artistic, creative or looking to get involved in something different?

Are you interested in learning new practical skills and applying them creatively?

Would you like to experience working as part of a team on a lasting project?

We are seeking a group of 18-25-year-olds with artistic flair!

The pilot mural project offers the opportunity to transform a space into something vibrant. Participants will prepare the space, be involved in the design process, and produce a finished piece of art on a permanent fixture.

What you will gain:

* Learn about The Canal & River Trust, our dedication to waterways, the environment, and health & safety near water.
* Gain experience in construction, painting, woodwork, and vegetation management.
* Learn new skills and techniques in using equipment.
* Participate in guided practical sessions with an experienced artist to be involved in the design process.

The program runs through summer 2025, starting late July. There are 6 places available. Apply today to be shortlisted for an interview.

Join us as a Conservator Volunteer and be part of the team preserving our waterways' history. You'll experience various locations, help maintain structures and assets, and contribute to the beauty of our canals. Tasks include vegetation management, graffiti removal, and community beautification projects. This is a great opportunity to make a difference locally and learn more about your area's waterways.

Why we want you:

Our Conservator volunteers help maintain the network, undertake heritage and nature conservation, and improve the local environment through activities like painting and litter picking.

They address challenges such as accessibility, maintenance, and conservation efforts, ensuring the canals remain accessible and well-maintained. Projects may include rebuilding stone walls or planting, allowing volunteers to contribute in various ways.

What you will be doing:

* Day-to-day maintenance
* Heritage restoration
* Graffiti removal
* Environmental enhancements like hedgelaying
* Creating access points with steps or ramps

When registering, volunteers will declare any unspent convictions for risk assessment purposes.

The skills you need:

* Willingness to learn new skills
* Ability to travel to remote locations

What's in it for you:

* Spending time outdoors
* Learning new skills (some with external accreditation)
* Keeping fit
* Meeting new, friendly people
* Being part of a supportive team
* Improving your wellbeing
