About the Role We are looking for an experienced Driver Trainer (LGV/HGV) to support the safe and effective day-to-day operation of our depot. This role is key in ensuring all drivers are trained to a high standard and remain compliant with statutory, legal, and operational requirements.
You will play a vital role in developing driver competence through induction, vocational training, monitoring driving behaviour, and delivering targeted interventions where required helping to maintain a safe, professional, and compliant driver workforce.
Key Responsibilities Recruitment & Onboarding
Support the recruitment process through pre-employment driver assessments
Deliver a comprehensive 5-day Driver Induction programme aligned with legislation and company standards
Driver Training & Development
Provide ongoing refresher training and additional mode training
Support continuous improvement in driver skills and customer experience
Performance & Compliance
Maintain accurate driver competence and training records using Express Class
Review driving performance data with management to identify trends and support needs
Conduct behavioural and performance interventions where improvements are required
Post-Incident Support
Deliver reassessments and retraining following incidents or near misses
Operational Support
Stay up to date with vehicle technical changes and communicate updates to drivers
Promote best practice in safe driving, vehicle checks, and compliance
Continuous Improvement
Enhance training delivery methods and driver learning outcomes
Commit to ongoing professional development
Essential Requirements Minimum 3 years HGV driving experience, including multiple HGV vehicle types
Proven experience conducting driver assessments and training
Valid Class 2 HGV Licence and Digital Tachograph Card
Up-to-date CPC Training
Good understanding of HGV mechanics and maintenance
Strong knowledge of driver checks and defect reporting
Sound understanding of relevant legislation, including the Working Time Directive
Flexible approach to working hours, including early starts, late finishes, nights, and weekends when required
