Sexual Health Hertfordshire have a vacancy for a band 6 Health advisor.
Sexual Health Hertfordshire provides and delivers level 3 integrated sexual health and contraception services across Hertfordshire, based within three main hubs and two spoke clinics.
The role of the Health Adviser within the clinic is to provide advice, information, education, treatment, and counselling to patients diagnosed with a sexually transmitted infection such as chlamydia, gonorrhoea, herpes, HIV, syphilis and hepatitis. Health Advisers participate in the management of the results of tests undertaken within the service and carry out partner notification, ensuring the attendance and treatment of contacts. The role also includes safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults. Health Advisers also play a key role in HIV post-test discussion and the care of people with HIV within the service.
The applicant will be based within the Sexual Health Advising team at Hatfield, although will be required to closely work alongside the other teams in the county and must be prepared to travel to these clinics when required.
Advert
Sexual health advice and risk reduction:
1. To provide evidence-based advice and information to patients diagnosed with a sexually transmitted infection; how they are acquired, transmitted, and treated.
2. To provide oral medication STI treatments to patients within the CLCH Patient Group Directions (PGDs) for registered nurses or Patient Specific Directions (PSDs) for non-nurses and/or to refer onto the doctor or nurse for prescriptions of treatments as necessary.
3. To provide pre HIV test discussion with patients who may have been at risk or are worried.
4. Undertake HIV Point of Care Testing with patients.
5. Counselling/counselling skills: with patients either face to face or by telephone, including counselling on sexual assaults.
6. To provide advice and support to young people whilst continually assessing for risks via our texting service Chat health.
HIV prevention:
1. To identify patients at high risk of HIV acquisition and provide advice and support regarding Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP).
2. Supporting patients who have been identified as being at immediate risk of HIV transmission through the use of Post Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP).
Safeguarding, assessments and referrals:
1. Undertaking complex risk assessments of sexual health and wellbeing for most at risk populations accessing services.
2. To provide initial crisis assessment and intervention to clients with related social, emotional, and psychological problems and conduct appropriate onward referrals.

Essential criteria
* RGN/RMN
* OR Educated to post graduate diploma level in health promotion, psychology, social work, or another similar field.
Desirable criteria
* Accredited counselling qualification
* STIF course
* Evidence of further education in the field of sexual or reproductive health
* Evidence of further study/qualifications in the field of risk reduction or behaviour change of Public Health
Experience
Essential criteria
* Previous experience of working as a Sexual Health Adviser or in another relevant health care/HIV specific/therapy setting
* Previous experience of 1:1 work with patients in a sexual health/health promotion context
Desirable criteria
* As above, Previous experience of working with PGDs/PSDs
* Experience in teaching/training
* Experience of outreach work e.g., charities prisons, community centres
Skills and Knowledge
Essential criteria
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* To have a good clinical knowledge of STIs and HIV
* Good knowledge of the principles and practice around partner notification
* Excellent IT skills including Outlook, Word, and Excel
