Mechanical Technician – Estates Team
An exciting opportunity has arisen within SLAM for a Mechanical Technician to join the Estates team. The Trust has four main sites and community properties, so applicants must be able to arrange their work, parts and materials and carry out tasks safely and tidily.
The post-holder may be required to work extra hours and altered work patterns. They must have a good general knowledge of domestic and commercial buildings.
Key Responsibilities
* Install, maintain, service and repair a wide range of plant and equipment.
* Diagnose and repair mechanical faults, provide technical advice to ensure safety and compliance with HTMs and regulatory standards.
* Use the Building Management System (BMS) to monitor and adhere to required standards.
* Modify and document mechanical systems, install temporary setups, and manufacture or modify equipment.
* Conduct condition surveys and prepare systems for inspection.
* Ensure all work meets statutory and mandatory safety requirements.
* Supervise installations and maintenance by staff and contractors.
* Liaise with compliance teams, contractors, ward staff and other disciplines.
* Attend meetings, provide specialist advice, and manage minor projects with contractors.
* Supervise and motivate staff, manage daily work allocation, plan and organise tasks to ensure efficient workflow, provide training, and cover for the supervisor during sickness and leave.
* Oversee risk assessments, handle maintenance requests, raise purchase orders, and maintain tools and equipment.
* Manage and perform heavy repairs and equipment moves.
* Implement and contribute to policy and service development, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations and other standards, participate in emergency on‑call duties, and drive between trust sites in a safe and timely manner in line with trust policies.
