Job Role: Mechanical Engineer (Maintenance Plumber) – Location: HMP Springhill. Salary:£41,818.21 + 5% salary increase in recognition of shift and weekend working. Contract: Full Time - Perm.
We are seeking a dedicated Mechanical Engineer to join our team at HMP Springhill, a category D male prison. We are a Ministry of Justice business providing critical and time-bound services to HMPPS, and we are looking for a Mechanical Engineer with a combination of experience and qualifications as described below.
Responsibilities
* Contribute to the safe and secure operation of facilities by maintaining and servicing mechanical and plumbing systems in a prison environment.
* Collaborate with Plumbers, Electricians, Carpenters, Painters, Cleaners, and Administrators to deliver effective facilities maintenance.
* Work to relevant health and safety requirements and ensure compliance with Water Supply Regulation and Control of Legionella L8 requirements.
* Support and participate in ongoing safety and security-focused maintenance activities to protect prisoners, staff, and visitors.
Qualifications
* Two years’ experience in a role as a plumber or equivalent.
* Familiar with Water Supply Regulation and Control of Legionella L8 requirements.
* Experience working on commercial or industrial heating and water systems.
* Good working knowledge of relevant health and safety requirements.
* Plumber qualified to C&G 6035 (Plumbing), C&G 6189 (Plumbing and heating) and NVQ level 3 in Plumbing or equivalent.
* Good Health & Safety knowledge; excellent organisational, time management and people skills.

Future Plans
GFSL has been notified by its shareholder (MOJ) that the provision of FM services will, in future, be delivered by the private sector. Following a successful procurement process, GFSL’s services will transfer to a private sector provider/providers no sooner than August 2027.
