Quality Engineer – Coventry
Salary: £36,000 - £38,000 per annum
Hours: 07:30am - 16:30pm Mon - Thurs, 07:30am - 11:30am Fri
Contract: Permanent
Arch Recruitment Solutions are currently recruiting for a Quality Engineer for a Manufacturing company based in Coventry.
This is an exciting position suited to candidates experienced within Precision Manufacturing, with a solid background in Quality, ideally within the Automotive or Motorsport industry.
Responsibilities
* Complete first off inspection and in‑process inspection, as well as running CMM programs.
* Maintain Quality areas in order and clean according to 5S methodology.
* Calibration — manage internal and external controls, and book external calibration activities.
* Control non‑conforming product, ensure parts are correctly entered into casting and setting registers, and report details to management.
* Edit and modify automatic CMM programs and carry out probe qualification autonomously.
* Support the Quality Manager on Automotive quality tools and best practices.
* Identify and recommend potential improvements to the quality system (e.g., control plans, quality instructions, PFMEAs) to capture lessons learned and new requirements.
* Carry out feasibility studies on new or modified drawings.
* Check drawings and specifications to ensure status is aligned with the latest released version.
* Evaluate necessary technical characteristics for semi‑machined items and implement appropriately.
* Supplier performance monitoring — check all quality related subcontract deliveries (incoming inspection) and record findings in an Excel file.
* Keep the data analysis spreadsheet up to date, including customer free issue received material.
* Manage Automotive quality tools and best practices in a fast‑paced engineering environment.
* Liaise with Customer SQA (Supplier Quality Assurance).
* Carry out internal audits for the role of Quality Engineer.
* CMM programming — create CMM programs and ensure they meet drawing/specification requirements.
* Monitor customer, internal, and supplier performance using KPIs, and report on performance.
* Identify opportunities to reduce waste and increase efficiency, and seek out risks to minimise them.
Role requirements
* Preferable: HNC/HND with elements in mechanical and quality qualifications.
* Experience in quality control in automotive field, particularly on machined components.
* CMM programming using QCT software (online and offline).
* Interpretation of mechanical drawings (ISO standard) and knowledge of GD&T.
* Ability to select and use basic measuring equipment (micrometers, calipers, protractors, etc.).
* Ability to use standard gauging (plug, gap, acceptance, etc.).
* Automatic CMM operation (selecting and running programs).
* Ability to interpret and understand specific customer quality standards and requirements.
* Comprehensive knowledge of ISO 9001.
* Basic IT skills, including MS Office and especially strong Excel skills (design a spreadsheet, setup filters/conditional formatting, design a Pivot table).
* Experience with calibration of measuring equipment and gauges.
* Automatic CMM basic program editing, probe qualification, etc.
* Good communication skills and self‑motivation; able to manage time to meet customer deadlines/deliveries.
* Ability to provide Quality Assurance support on Automotive quality tools and best practices (ISR, Initial Sample Reports, balloons drawings, control plans, 8D reports, Deviation and Concession Requests, AIMs, etc.).
* CMM full programming capability, including for complex components such as gearboxes.
* Process management software experience.
* Ability to carry out MSA studies.
* Basic knowledge of TS16949 quality systems.
* SPC knowledge, including QS‑Stat (SPC software).
