Uncrewed Systems Field Applications Engineer
Teledyne Marine - Vehicles is part of a group of leading undersea technology companies including Teledyne Benthos, Webb Research, OceanScience, and Gavia. Our products include unmanned systems and acoustic technology. Teledyne Marine Vehicles is everywhere you look!
We are hiring a UK-based Field Applications Engineer to support Slocum gliders and Gavia AUVs, especially for the UK Royal Navy. Responsibilities include technical support, training, customer piloting, onsite testing, and supporting sales through demonstrations, technical papers, and outreach. Willingness to travel internationally and work on seagoing vessels is required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
* Provide service and support for Slocum and Gavia systems, including answering inquiries, onsite testing, training, and piloting.
* Support sales and marketing by deploying systems at demos, presenting technical papers, attending trade shows, and engaging with customers.
Qualifications/Requirements
Candidates must meet the following:
* 10+ years of UK Royal Navy experience with unmanned systems, including AUVs and gliders.
* Strong connections within RN user communities.
* BSc in Engineering, Robotics, Computer Science, Oceanography, or related field, with relevant experience, or equivalent military experience.
* Experience with equipment assembly, electro-mechanical repairs, and vessel operations.
* Operational experience with Gavia AUVs and Slocum gliders, including mission planning and data analysis.
* Knowledge of sonar and physical oceanography.
* Understanding of naval unmanned systems operations.
* Excellent communication skills and ability to solve customer problems creatively.
* Willingness to travel at least 25%, domestically and internationally.
* Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
Preferred qualifications include UK security clearance, CRM experience, seagoing vessel experience, and customer-facing roles.
Physical and Work Environment
* Ability to handle equipment up to 50 lbs.
* Comfort working on vessels, in adverse weather, and in tight spaces.
* Ability to work offshore, in the field, and sometimes during non-standard hours.
* Ability to stand, walk, and travel extensively.
