Join Essex County Council's School Crossing Patrol Team as a School Crossing Patrol Officer at Unity Academy, Hickory Avenue, Colchester, and support your local community.
Assist in ensuring the safety of pedestrians crossing the road to and from school, with duties once in the morning and once in the afternoon.
We seek punctual, reliable, approachable individuals who enjoy engaging with the public.
This role involves approximately 7.5 hours per week during the 39-week academic year, including 45-minute shifts in the morning (08:00 - 09:00) and afternoon (14:45 - 15:45). Uniform, equipment, and training are provided.
Responsibilities:
1. Consider the needs of people with disabilities, especially mobility-impaired pedestrians.
2. Maintain contact with the schools served by the crossing.
3. Assess risks at the crossing site, report problems and defects.
4. Assist in preparing reports on incidents at the crossing.
5. Maintain the condition of uniform and equipment, requesting replacements as needed.
6. Signal to drivers to stop and ensure pedestrians are clear before allowing traffic to proceed.
