As part of our growth strategy, The Aurora Group is pleased to announce the opening of a new SEND Secondary School on September 5 in Chaldon, Surrey, for young people aged who require support with social communication, emotional regulation, and sensory processing, typically associated with Autism. All students will have access to a broad, exciting curriculum aligned with the national curriculum, personalized to meet their needs, interests, and passions. With small class sizes, high levels of classroom support, and a multidisciplinary intervention team, we aim to give students "every opportunity to achieve."

A key to the success of this new school will be the appointment of a highly effective SENDCo to join us on this exciting project!

This is a fantastic opportunity to join the school at the start of its journey. You will work with the Head of School in all aspects of leadership and management and will be responsible for developing learning and teaching, curriculum, careers & work experience, assessment, and enrichment across the designated phases of the school. You will be based at Aurora Chaldon School with occasional work at our satellite site in Caterham when required.

Key Duties:

* Promote best practice and contribute to the aims and ethos of the school through inset and CPD for new teachers.
* Work with the Head of School to ensure the delivery of a high-quality, engaging, well-resourced, differentiated curriculum tailored to all children.
* Act as Deputy Exam Officer, coordinating with the AHT/Exam Officer and subject teachers to ensure exams and accreditation processes meet JCQ requirements.
* Lead the identification of meaningful post-school destinations and implement transition plans, liaising with colleges and considering pupil needs.
* Lead Year 9 transition reviews, ensuring student voice is captured and outcomes align with Pathways for Adulthood.
* Identify and enable access arrangements for exams and accreditation.
* Oversee Careers Education, Information, Advice, and Guidance, supporting pupils' pathways to adulthood.
* Ensure statutory responsibilities are met in accordance with each pupil’s EHCP and SEND assessments.
* Coordinate and deploy school provisions based on policies, staffing, and resources for pupils with SEND.
* Communicate with parents, carers, staff, external agencies, and local authorities regarding pupil progress and support strategies.
* Integrate SEN provisions, including staff deployment, resources, and intervention strategies.
* Advise and assist the Head of School on SEN policy development and review.
* Prepare for statutory reviews and case conferences.
* Develop positive relationships within the school and externally to support school development toward outstanding status.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:

* QTS or QTLS is essential.

Desirable Qualifications:

* Accredited training in areas such as Autism, Dyslexia, etc.
* NPQSL/H/SENDCo or willingness to achieve within 2 years.
* Proven track record of effective teaching within relevant key stages or special needs environments.
* Experience in policy implementation and leadership in inclusion.
* Effective team management and collaboration skills.
* Strong communication skills across various mediums.
* Experience managing complex scenarios and resolving conflicts.
* Effective external agency collaboration.
