Maintenance Engineer

Job Summary / Purpose
Maintain and repair plant, equipment, and buildings to support 24/7 production of specialty plastic compounds. Collaborate with the maintenance team to meet safety, efficiency, and equipment utilization objectives. Provide round-the-clock troubleshooting for maintenance, fire, or safety issues.
Demonstrate experience in maintaining plant & equipment through mechanical & electrical repairs.
Work towards company targets related to Safety, Quality, Cost & Delivery.
Main Responsibilities
1. Perform electrical & mechanical breakdown repairs across the site (Melton Mowbray and Old Dalby).
2. Carry out repairs and safety checks to ensure high safety standards and compliance with legislation.
3. Report unsafe machinery and respond to safety failures with corrective actions or equipment isolation.
4. Assess risks and execute repairs using safe work practices, ensuring safety for yourself and others.
5. Implement planned maintenance in liaison with Production to ensure smooth operation of all production equipment, minimizing downtime and costs.
6. Maintain site utility services (gas, water, electricity) cost-effectively and reliably; suggest energy savings and improvements.
7. Support safety, calibration, and inspection systems to meet safety legislation and company standards.
8. Identify spare parts needs and coordinate stock levels with the Engineering Coordinator.
9. Assist in troubleshooting processing issues and process variations, recommending improvements where needed.
10. Train colleagues and operators in tasks such as TPM and changeovers.
11. Participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to safety and environmental compliance.
12. Support operational training and undertake projects as assigned by the Engineering Manager.
13. Maintain flexibility to work shifts as required for business needs and holiday cover.
Minimum Qualifications
* Apprentice-trained in Electrical or Mechanical disciplines
* Fluent in English
Knowledge & Experience
* Fault finding & repair of gearboxes & drives
* Experience in fast-paced manufacturing environments
* IT literacy
* Teamwork skills
* Ability to interpret technical drawings
* Understanding of PLC & SCADA systems
* Electrical & Mechanical installation skills
* Fault diagnosis on pneumatic & hydraulic systems
* Physical ability to perform the job (mobility, vision, strength, etc.)
