Overview We are seeking a Deputy Shift Leader : Engineering to support the delivery of maintenance operations within a critical / high:availability environment.
This is an excellent opportunity for an electrically qualified engineer with experience in building services, facilities management, or data centre environments, looking to step into a leadership:focused role.
You will play a key part in ensuring system uptime, safety, and operational reliability, while supporting the Shift Leader and site management team.
Acting as a High Voltage (HV) Authorised Person, you will be responsible for the safe operation of electrical infrastructure, alongside delivering PPM, reactive maintenance, and emergency response activities.
Key Responsibilities Electrical Operations and Compliance
: Deliver Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) in line with schedules and statutory requirements
: Ensure electrical systems and plant operate safely, efficiently, and reliably
: Act as HV Authorised Person (AP), managing Permit to Work (PTW) and switching procedures
: Maintain accurate maintenance records, QA documentation, and reports
: Ensure full compliance with Health and Safety regulations and site standards
: Respond to reactive maintenance tasks and critical faults
Fault Finding and Technical Works
: Carry out fault diagnosis, troubleshooting, and repairs on electrical distribution and building services systems
: Perform minor installations, upgrades, and system modifications
: Maintain lighting systems, distribution boards, and associated infrastructure
: Support technical surveys, including materials, specifications, and cost estimates
Coordination and Leadership Support
: Act as a key point of contact for client and stakeholder queries
: Supervise subcontractors and specialist vendors, ensuring safe and compliant delivery
: Maintain and follow SOPs, RAMS, and switching schedules
: Support the Shift Leader, assisting with coordination of engineering activities and resources
: Contribute to team development, performance, and operational excellence
Health, Safety and Compliance (HSE)
: Promote a safety:first culture across all operations
: Ensure compliance with HSE standards and safe working practices at all times
: Participate in incident reporting, investigations, and corrective actions
: Support internal and external audits
: Review and update Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS)
Skills and Experience Essential
: Electrical Apprenticeship / NVQ / City and Guilds qualification
: 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (or equivalent)
: Strong experience in:
: Electrical maintenance and fault finding
: PPM and reactive maintenance
: Electrical inspection and testing
: Knowledge of building services systems (electrical and mechanical)
: Experience in facilities management or critical environments
: Strong understanding of Health and Safety compliance
: Excellent communication, organisation, and teamwork skills
Desirable
: HV Authorised Person (AP) experience or working towards
: Experience in data centres, banking, or mission:critical environments
: Knowledge of:
: BMS (Building Management Systems)
: UPS systems and standby generators
: PASMA / IPAF certifications
: Experience using CAFM / CMMS systems
: Previous supervisory experience or ambition to progress into leadership
Working Hours
: Shift:based role (days/nights depending on site requirements)
: Flexibility required for overtime, shift cover, and emergency call:outs
: Fully compliant with Working Time Regulations
