Role Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, experienced Nurse to apply for a full time post as a Band 6 Clinical Sister/Charge Nurse on Gold Accredited, Ward 10 Head & Neck. The ideal candidate would have complex airway management skills including tracheostomy and laryngectomy; however this is not a requirement and the right candidate can gain these once in post. The candidate should be able to demonstrate high standards of patient care, have excellent communication skills and be able to engage other staff in improvement initiatives to inspire the ward in its accreditation journey.
Key Responsibilities
1. Accountable for own actions in accordance with the Code of Professional Conduct, contributing to corporate objectives, acting within local, Trust and statutory guidelines and policies at all times.
2. Effectively communicate information regarding clinical decisions, policy and care pathways to patients/carers and the multi-professional team, including situations where difficulties in comprehension occur.
3. A skilled practitioner and clinical leader providing support to the management team, participating in service/policy development.
4. Responsible for clinical assessment of a group of patients and management of a team, ensuring appropriate care is planned, implemented and evaluated/audited, involving patients and users.
5. Organisation of cross-departmental/organisational activities including HR, resource, and bleep-holder responsibilities as appropriate.
* Develop and educate staff, participating in supervision, mentorship and appraisal as required.
* Utilise and ensure others utilise IT systems to secure accurate and timely patient, workforce and resource data available.
* Manage expected and unexpected clinical events requiring high but unpredictable levels of physical effort according to patient dependency/clinical need, referring to a senior member of staff where appropriate in an unexpected event.
* Support patients, carers and others during difficult situations arising in the clinical area, e.g. imparting bad news or following an unexpected event.
* Promote and monitor adherence to Health and Safety and Trust policy designed to protect healthcare staff and service users from known hazards.
* Maintain a clean, safe environment ensuring adherence to Trust standards of cleanliness, hygiene and infection control at all times.
Working Hours
Full‑time working a mixture of long days and nights.
