A well-regarded mainstream secondary school in Salisbury is seeking to appoint a dedicated and enthusiastic Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join their supportive team from September. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about education and committed to helping young people reach their full potential, particularly those who require additional support in their learning journey.
The school prides itself on creating an inclusive environment where every student is encouraged to thrive both academically and personally. With a strong ethos centred around respect, resilience, and ambition, staff work collaboratively to ensure that all students, regardless of their individual challenges, have access to the support they need to succeed.
The Role:
The successful candidate will work closely with teaching staff to support students with a range of additional learning needs, including those with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). This will involve both in-class support and occasional one-to-one or small group interventions outside of lessons. The role requires patience, adaptability, and a nurturing approach, as well as the ability to build positive relationships with students and staff alike.
This is a full-time, term-time role ideally suited to someone with previous experience in a similar setting, though the school is also open to considering candidates with a strong interest in working with young people and a genuine desire to make a difference.
Key Responsibilities:
Supporting identified students in lessons to access the curriculum and stay engaged in their learning
Assisting with the implementation of personalised support plans and learning strategies
Working with students on a one-to-one basis or in small groups to reinforce key concepts and develop skills
Supporting the classroom teacher in maintaining a positive learning environment
Helping to monitor and record student progress, and feeding back to the SENCO and teaching staff
Contributing to the overall wellbeing and development of students, offering encouragement and emotional support when needed
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
Experience working with young people, ideally in a school or educational setting
A calm and empathetic nature, with the ability to remain professional and positive in challenging situations
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
The ability to work effectively as part of a team, as well as using initiative when required
A good standard of general education, including literacy and numeracy skills
An understanding of, or willingness to learn about, the needs of students with SEND
This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a forward-thinking school community that values inclusion and puts students at the heart of everything it does. Whether you’re an experienced LSA or someone considering a career in education, this role offers the chance to make a real impact.
