Job summary

Provide clinical support, expert care, and clinical leadership to support patients with a diagnosis of colorectal cancer at ASPH receiving SACT.

To provide expert, comprehensive knowledge, specialist advice, information, and psychological support to patients with colorectal cancer receiving treatment.

Positively impact the experience of patients and carers by maintaining high standards of clinical practice and care across the trust.

Deliver specialist oncology nurse-led clinics assessing fitness for treatment and delivering pre-chemotherapy education. Support PSFU surveillance as needed.

Main duties of the job:

* Promote high standards of specialist care for colorectal cancer patients, ensuring a quality experience.
* Provide specialist support and care to patients admitted with treatment complications.
* Work autonomously to support patients, facilitate investigations, and provide clinical engagement and support for those receiving SACT.
* Deliver HNA and treatment summary clinics for all patients.
* Serve as a resource within the trust and community for clinical advice and information.
* Contribute to clinical governance within the trust for cancer patients alongside the Lead Cancer Nurse.
* Deliver care aligned with national and alliance guidelines and requirements.

Job description

* Plan, deliver, and evaluate programmes addressing patients' complex health needs.
* Initiate and promote collaborative working and effective communication within the multidisciplinary team to improve patient management and outcomes.
* Discuss investigations and treatment options for cancer with sensitivity, knowledge, and expertise.
* Deliver clinical care and management in line with local and national guidance and best practices.

Person Specification


Qualifications (Essential)

* First degree in a related subject or equivalent experience/competence gained through clinical experience at a senior level.
* Post-basic qualification in cancer or colorectal cancer care/management or relevant experience in colorectal cancer nursing.
* SACT certification.
* NMC registration.


Qualifications (Desirable)

* Advanced communication skills training or willingness to undertake.
* Level 2 Psychological Training.


Experience (Essential)

* Post-registration experience at Band 6 or above in colorectal cancer nursing.
* Evidence of advanced communication skills.
* Ability to lead and influence change.


Experience (Desirable)

* Previous Band 7 experience.


Knowledge (Essential)

* Advanced knowledge of colorectal cancer treatment and management.
* Knowledge of cancer performance standards.


Knowledge (Desirable)

* Awareness of the annual Cancer Patient Satisfaction Survey.


Skills (Essential)

* Effective communication with all service users and staff.
* Strategic vision and planning skills for service development.
