We have an excellent opportunity within the Trust for a Consultant Psychiatrist based within the Old Age Liaison Mental Health Service. The post holder will principally provide leadership and senior medical input to the Old Age Liaison Service based in the Department of Psychological Medicine within Hull Royal Infirmary. You will need to be flexible, visionary and have interpersonal skills to engage with patients and carers and develop professional working relationships with multi‑disciplinary and multi‑agency teams.
Responsibilities
* Provide consultant psychiatrist input to the Old Age Liaison Service.
* Act as Responsible Clinician (RC) for patients over the age of 65 detained to the acute hospital under the Mental Health Act.
* Provide cross‑cover with consultant colleagues as required as part of a reciprocal arrangement.
* Offer specialist advice, consultation and training to Primary Care, Secondary Mental Health Care and Acute Teaching Hospitals.
* Co‑ordinate with colleagues to provide patient‑centred care, effective joint working and risk management.
* Actively contribute to departmental and team governance, including audit.
* Participate in peer appraisal, CPD, appraisal and job planning.
* Provide supervision and training to junior medical staff.
* Join undergraduate teaching programmes.
* Participate on the Old Age and LD consultant on call rota (1:7 joint rota).
* Contribute to postgraduate teaching and supervision of junior doctors.
* Engage in continuing professional development according to Royal College of Psychiatrists guidelines.
* Complete all relevant clinical administration associated with the post.
* Maintain responsibility for the provision of safe and effective, evidence‑based care and treatment.
* Engage in the development of the service through research and ongoing support.
Person Specification – Eligibility
* Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
* Included on the GMC Specialist Register within six months of appointment.
* Approved clinician status or ability to achieve within three months of appointment (Trust will appoint a Section 12(2) provider during transition).
* In good standing with the GMC with respect to any warnings or conditions on practice (desirable).
Person Specification – Clinical
* Excellent knowledge in older age psychiatry.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
* Ability to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty.
* Decision‑making based on evidence and experience, incorporating input from others.
* Ability to meet duties under MHA and MCA.
* Wide range of specialist and sub‑specialist experience relevant to older age psychiatry (desirable).

* Ability to deliver undergraduate or postgraduate teaching and training.
* Experience leading and working within a team.
