Are you an experienced maritime professional with a passion for safety and teamwork? Associated British Ports is seeking a dedicated Coxswain to join our team in Lowestoft, providing a vital 24/7 pilotage service to support safe and efficient port operations.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Serve as Coxswain or Deck Hand on Lowestoft Pilot Boats, ensuring the safe boarding and landing of pilots.
2. Provide linesmen services for vessels and maintain pilot vessels to the highest standards of safety and seaworthiness.
3. Operate and maintain other port marine craft as required.
4. Ensure compliance with Marine Operations Procedures, Safety Management Systems, and Health & Safety directives.
5. Participate in emergency drills and oil pollution control activities.
6. Report defects, unsafe practices, and damages, and assist with training and communication within the Marine Department.
7. Support general housekeeping and maintenance around the port estate.
Essential Skills & Qualifications:
8. RYA Yachtmaster with Commercial Endorsement.
9. Proven experience in boat handling across various types of craft.
10. Radio (GMDSS) or VHF short range certificate.
11. Valid ENG1 medical certificate.
12. Full UK driving licence.
13. Current First Aid training.
14. Strong knowledge of relevant safety and regulatory responsibilities.
15. Flexible, committed, and able to work effectively within a small team.
16. Computer literate.
Desirable:
17. Experience as Coxswain on twin screw craft.
18. Knowledge of port operations and emergency plans.
19. Local knowledge of the Lowestoft area.
