About The Role Contract: Permanent / 3 year Fixed Term Salary: HC 12: £57,262 - £63,505 Hours: 37 Location: Plough Lane, Hereford Closing Date: 04/08/2025 Located at the heart of the Marches, the historic border countryside where England meets Wales, Herefordshire is one of the most rural counties in England. Beautiful, unspoilt countryside, two Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, historic parklands, the cathedral city of Hereford and attractive market towns provide an excellent quality of life. This exciting position is a unique opportunity to take the lead role on the Council’s pioneering and award-winning phosphate mitigation strategy to improve the health of one of the Country’s favourite rivers, the River Wye, and to restore the special area of conservation back to a favourable condition. As a strategic, cross border issue, the successful post holder will work in partnership with numerous departments, neighbouring council’s, partners and both English and Welsh government offices seeking to develop, resource and deliver a holistic solution to address phosphate pollution in the river. As a specialist technical expert the post holder will also work closely with the Built & Natural Environment team and Project Management Office to support the direct delivery of the Council’s mitigation projects including the construction of new integrated constructed wetlands, upgrading septic tanks and seeking to develop new innovative pilot schemes.
