Brief Description: Route Services is a division of Network Rail that provides the Routes with services so they can help Network Rail deliver a better railway for a better Britain. This role sits within Supply Chain Operations (SCO), an area of the business which supplies and delivers the logistics, materials, components, rail and road fleet that enable the maintenance and renewal of the railway.

Role Overview: As a Project Engineer (Civils), you will manage the engineering aspects of Civils works across projects, ensuring design, construction, and commissioning activities meet Network Rail standards and statutory obligations. You will act as the Designated Project Engineer (DPE) for Civils disciplines when required, supporting safety, quality, and efficiency outcomes.
About the role (External):
Network Rail seeks a Project Engineer (Civils) to oversee design and construction activities for designated projects.
Key accountabilities:
1. Implement Network Rail systems and procedures to ensure a cost-effective, high-quality, safe, and environmentally responsible approach to all technical activities, complying with legislation. Liaise with regulators as needed.
2. Ensure projects comply with Network Rail standards, specifications, and procedures, including railway group standards and formal specifications.
3. Manage all engineering activities to deliver schemes that are affordable, meet schedule, and adhere to safety and environmental standards regarding time, cost, and quality.
4. Use risk assessment and HAZOP analysis techniques to manage environmental aspects of projects in line with Network Rail’s policies.
5. Monitor the performance of design and construction consultants and contractors.
6. Provide project management advice for construction activities, including testing, commissioning, and site supervision, ensuring compliance with CDM regulations.
7. Ensure internal and contractor personnel involved are competent.
8. Review design and construction activities, and conduct audits to monitor safety, environment, and quality standards.
9. Serve as the designated project engineer (DPE) for specific projects.
10. Share best practices across project teams.
Job Skills, Experience, and Qualifications:
1. Relevant experience in civil engineering, particularly in construction and design projects across multiple disciplines.
2. Technical qualifications such as HNC/HND or equivalent GNVQ level.
3. Knowledge of quality assurance processes.
4. Understanding of independent assessment procedures.
5. Membership of a professional body with chartered status or a degree-level education.
6. Knowledge of safety case structuring for projects.
7. Awareness of environmental issues related to engineering works.
