Healthcare Support Worker - Midgley Ward

As a full‑time Healthcare Support Worker on our 26 bedded Midgley Ward which specialises in Respiratory and Acute Medicine you will provide high standards of care to our patients while working both independently and as part of a team, prioritising your workload to ensure quality care and demonstrate a caring and compassionate approach.
The ideal candidate will have some care experience and will be able to work night shifts. We offer a period of supernumerary time to support you into your role, and further learning and development are encouraged.
Main duties of the job
* We are looking for a caring and compassionate person who is able to work within a multi-disciplinary team to deliver a high standard of individualized nursing care to our patients.
* You will need excellent communication skills, and be able to work as part of a team, prioritising your workload to ensure the best outcomes for patients.
* You will ensure that your own actions support the care, protection and well‑being of individuals, and ensure their privacy and dignity at all times.
* Duties include monitoring and recording of vital signs, escorting patients off the ward for investigations/scans, assisting with personal care and nutritional support.
* You will need to be flexible as this post includes days, nights and weekend working.
Accredited responsibilities as delegated by qualified nursing staff
* Observing, monitoring and recording patients' conditions by taking temperatures, pulse, respirations, oxygen saturations and weight.
* Providing personalised care such as infection prevention and control, food, personal hygiene and overall reassurance, comfort and safety.
* Administrative duties such as answering the telephone, taking messages and referring to the Staff Nurse for instructions, participating in ward/unit meetings, encouraging effective communications between other staff.
* Assisting with the undertaking and implementation of risk assessments.
* Communicating with staff, patients, relatives and carers.
* Recognising and responding to situations within the work area and reporting to the nurse in charge while acknowledging your own limitations and seeking advice of senior staff as required.
About the ward
We are a 26 bedded ward admitting patients from A&E, EAU, MRU and other ward transfers. The successful candidate will join a friendly and supportive team, and work as an integral part of the multi-disciplinary team committed to providing high standards of compassionate, individualized care.

Person Specification
Qualifications and training
* NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care or equivalent qualification/experience
* Care certificate
* English & Mathematics at GCSE grade A-C (9-4) or level 2 functional skills
Knowledge and experience
* Previous experience in a care environment or ability to demonstrate a caring nature/life experience
* Understanding of the need for strict confidentiality
* Working knowledge of complex care needs of some individuals/families including Safeguarding Children & Adults, Domestic Abuse and Mental Health
Specific skills
* Basic computer/keyboard skills
* Good interpersonal and communication skills
* Able to prioritise and organise work
* Record keeping competency in handwritten and electronic records
* Able to manage stress in themselves and others
* Willingness to undertake new skills and training
* To be flexible, adaptable, reliable and punctual
* Healthcare competencies appropriate to area of work
