Senior Health Claims Coding Strategy Lead
£85,000 + performance bonus | Hybrid (2 days on-site)
Location: Tunbridge Wells or Bournemouth
A leading UK health insurer is seeking a senior leader to own and evolve the strategy behind health claims coding and clinical data.
This is not a hands-on coding role.
It is a strategic, enterprise-level position for someone who understands healthcare coding deeply enough to shape direction, influence senior stakeholders, and lead change at scale.
The opportunity
The organisation’s current claims coding framework is operationally effective, but there is a significant opportunity to modernise it to unlock deeper insight, improve data quality, and better support clinical, commercial, and customer outcomes.
In this role, you will:
* Lead the end-to-end strategy for health claims coding
* Assess and recommend coding frameworks (e.g. ICD-9/10/11, SNOMED)
* Improve data quality across the full claims lifecycle (diagnosis, procedures, drugs)
* Design and deliver a multi-year transformation roadmap
* Build and present business cases to senior leadership and ExCo
* Deliver incremental improvements and quick wins alongside longer-term change
* Work closely across claims, medical, analytics, provider management, and proposition teams
* Lead and develop a small specialist team, with scope to grow over time
About you
You are a strategic healthcare data leader who can bridge technical understanding with executive influence.
You bring:
* Strong experience within healthcare claims, coding, reimbursement, or clinical data
* Solid understanding of clinical coding frameworks (strategic rather than hands-on)
* Proven experience leading complex change and transformation
* Confidence influencing senior stakeholders and operating at enterprise level
* A curious, proactive mindset — comfortable challenging and being challenged
You do not need:
* To code day-to-day
* A clinical qualification
* Perfect knowledge of every coding system
