Overview
The Mildred Creak Unit is a children's inpatient mental health unit situated within The Psychological and Mental Health Services at Great Ormond Street Hospital in the heart of London. The Unit cares for young people aged 7 - 13 years old with a range of severe and complex mental health difficulties.
Role and responsibilities
* The role involves supporting junior nursing staff and encouraging their development, this includes staff nurses from child and mental health backgrounds, experienced therapeutic care workers and healthcare assistants.
* Supporting a structured routine for the young people with weekly meetings at 2pm, including nurse led teaching, group discussion, MDT meetings, monthly team reflective meetings and a weekly facilitated nurse support meeting.
* We believe that every interaction with a young person is an opportunity to be therapeutic. Recognising the impact of the work, alongside the weekly reflective group meetings we support monthly individual supervision. Offering greater autonomy to the nurses, provides young people with greater collaboration and empowerment opportunities in their treatment journey.
* Role requires working within a team of dedicated nurses and a wide variety of other disciplines; good communication and organisational skills are essential, as is experience with this patient group.
