Deputy Chief Medical Officer - Strategy and Workforce The closing date is 14 June 2026.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Chief Medical Officer team at the RUH, Bath. We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic individual to help us make a positive difference for our staff and patients.

Working with our Interim Chief Medical Officer and Deputy Chief Medical Officer for Safety and Clinical Effectiveness, you will provide leadership on the Clinical Strategy and all medical and dental workforce issues, through professional assurance, leadership development, workforce planning and productivity.

You will have had considerable experience in medical management with a demonstrable track record of clinical leadership in an acute setting or complex healthcare organisation.

This role will also work closely with the Chief Nurse, Deputy Chief Nurses and Divisional Leadership Teams supported by a number of Associate Chief Medical Officer roles to ensure we have sufficient resources for all areas of the CMO portfolio.

Main duties of the job This role is one of two Deputy Chief Medical Officer posts.

The Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Strategy and Workforce provides leadership on the Clinical Strategy and all medical and dental workforce issues, through professional assurance, leadership development, workforce planning and productivity.

The role leads on medical workforce planning, including the development of electronic job planning, consultant induction, health inequalities, improved medical staff engagement across the Trust, and input into the creation of medical leadership development programmes.

You will work alongside our Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Safety and Clinical Effectiveness who will support the delivery of the Trust's strategic goals with a focus on providing strong professional and clinical leadership to improve clinical outcomes, patient safety, medical standards, patient experience, efficiency and effectiveness.

The portfolio of these roles will align and engage medical staff in delivering efficient, high quality, safe and compassionate care to patients in all services.

Person Specification Qualifications and experience required:

Evidence of continued professional development.

Qualification in management, leadership, or quality improvement.

Current GMC registration.

Evidence of continuing leadership development.

Demonstrable leadership experience.

Experience of developing leadership knowledge and skills in others.

Experience of service innovation and development.

Substantial clinical experience at consultant level.

Strong reputation as a clinician and clinical leader, with a proven track record of producing high quality results in the management and leadership of clinical services.

Significant organisational change experience and managing difficult and complex change.

A good knowledge of the local healthcare system.

Political awareness, with the ability to understand wider interest groups and stakeholders, and to work sensitively to overcome their differing positions and interests.

A thorough grasp of the NHS, local and national health care strategies.

A proven ability to plan strategically.

Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust

£109,725 to £145,478 a year Pro rata. Subject to pay award and dependent on experience.
