Fixed-term: 12 months

The Opportunity:

We are recruiting for Associate Tutors (PGDE Secondary School Placement) with Art & Design, Drama, and Geography specialisms. The roles will predominantly focus on supporting and assessing students as part of their placement experience. The post-holders will be appointed on a Guaranteed Hours basis and specific duties will be allocated in discussion with the Programme Director, Course Organiser and subject specialist strand leader and/or Tutor depending on qualifications and relevant experience.

This is a Guaranteed Hours post that combines a mix of remote and on-campus working.

The posts may be split between multiple candidates depending on applicant suitability.

The approximate number of guaranteed hours offered for the year are as follows:

1. Art & Design - 260
2. Drama - 286
3. Geography - 208

The salary for this post is UE07 (£41,064 - £48,822) per annum, pro rata.

Your skills and attributes for success:

4. GTCS registered teacher of relevant subject area with a proven record of Learning, Teaching and Assessment from S1-6. You will have a thorough knowledge of the curriculum and experience teaching a range of courses in the Senior Phase.
5. Excellent communication skills. You will be working with students and staff in the placement schools to ensure that good mentoring relationships are set up and students are given the opportunities necessary to meet the GTCS Standards for Provisional Registration.
6. Excellent IT skills. The main method of communication with students whilst on placement is via Microsoft OneNote.
7. Flexibility and willingness to travel. Visits are arranged over two weeks in October/November, January/February and March/April. Our students are placed in schools all over Scotland and so a clean driving licence is essential and ability to stay overnight away from home when necessary (travel expenses are covered).
8. Ability to work independently, contact students and schools, organise a visit schedule and meet Board of Examiner’s deadlines for all documentation

We are keen to attract a diverse applicant pool, and we are aware that some under-represented groups are typically less likely to apply for jobs unless they are sure they comfortably meet all the criteria. With this in mind, we encourage all potential candidates to reflect on their strengths and experience in the broadest sense, including transferable skills where appropriate, when considering their suitability for the position.

Application Information

Applicants should submit a CV and a cover letter, detailing how you meet each of the essential criteria as outlined in the ‘Knowledge, Skills and Experience’ section of the job description. It is suggested that this is a structured series of headings listing each criteria accompanied by a short paragraph for each, providing examples of where your skills and experience meet each of these competencies.
