Days & Hours: Permanent hours available as follows:
Week 1: Monday, 19.00-22.00
Bank hours: Available for covering annual leave and sickness. Hours vary weekly, with options for full-time, days, nights, or a combination. Shift durations range from 3 to 10+ hours.
Pay:
* £13.65/hr Monday to Friday, Days (8.00am-8.00pm)
* £15.00/hr Monday to Friday, Waking Nights (8.00pm-8.00am)
* £15.00/hr Weekends, Days (8.00am-8.00pm)
* £16.00/hr Weekends, Waking Nights (8.00pm-8.00am)
* National Minimum/National Living Wage per hour (dependent on age), Sleeping Nights (10.00pm-7.00am)
Driver required? Yes, to drive Verity's wheelchair adapted vehicle (automatic).
Accommodation: Own room with toilet and tea-making facilities for sleeping night shifts.
Pets: Family has a small dog living in the main house, away from care areas.
Interviews: Initial telephone interview, followed by face-to-face for successful applicants.
Start date: ASAP, subject to checks.
Verity, in her mid-40s with an acquired brain injury, lives independently with a 24-hour support team. She requires support with all aspects of care, including transfers, personal care, PEG feeding, catheter care, pressure care, suctioning, and respiratory care. Training will be provided, and a willingness to learn is essential.
She enjoys social activities, outings, and planning celebrations. She uses a wheelchair accessible vehicle for outings.
Verity communicates non-verbally through body language and facial expressions. She is registered blind and her team describes her environment and activities to her, including TV programs she enjoys, such as soap dramas and occasionally Naked Attraction.
Support involves assistance during the day and overnight, with specific roles for waking and sleeping night workers. The sleeping night has a separate suite and is only woken when necessary.
Physical handling skills, including hoisting, are required. Training will ensure safety and competence. Support workers should be organized, dedicated, calm, proactive, and enthusiastic, with good communication skills, patience, tact, and warmth.
