Job Title: Road Planer Operator – NPORS N216 Certified Location: Manchester Industry: Civil Engineering Company Overview We are currently partnered with a well-established, family-run business in the civil engineering sector. Our client has built a reputation for professionalism and quality, working with both public and private sector clients. Due to consistent growth and the acquisition of new projects, they are looking to appoint a highly skilled Road Planer Operator who ticks all the right boxes. Job Overview: This is a niche role requiring someone with hands-on experience operating road planers ideally someone who knows their way around the machine without needing to be shown the ropes. If you’ve been there, done that, and worn the high-vis vest, we want to hear from you. Key Responsibilities: Operate Road Planing Machinery (Cold Milling Machines): Safely and efficiently operate road planers to remove the top layer of road surfaces before resurfacing works. Machine Setup and Calibration: Ensure correct setup, calibration, and adjustment of the planer to meet required depth and gradient specifications. Pre-Start Checks and Maintenance: Conduct daily pre-use checks and basic maintenance of the machine to ensure safety and functionality. Work to Technical Plans and Site Instructions: Follow detailed work plans, drawings, and instructions from site supervisors or engineers. Surface Preparation: Prepare the road surface for resurfacing, ensuring proper milling depth, clean edges, and removal of debris. Collaborate with Surfacing Teams: Coordinate closely with traffic management, groundworkers, and surfacing teams to ensure seamless project flow. Adhere to Safety and Environmental Standards: Maintain full compliance with health & safety regulations, including PPE use, safe working distances, and spill prevention. Monitor and Report Machine Performance: Flag any mechanical issues or defects and assist in ensuring planned maintenance is carried out. Operate Within Live Environments (if applicable): Work on live roads with traffic management in place, maintaining awareness of surroundings and public safety. Complete Paperwork / Digital Logs: Fill out daily logs, inspection sheets, or digital reporting systems as required by the employer or contractor.
