Main duties of the job
We are pleased to offer the opportunity for recruitment into the post of paediatric learning disability and autism nurse specialist within the children's hospital at UHS. You will support the coordination of planned/acute admissions and outpatient appointments for paediatric patients with learning disabilities and/or autistic spectrum conditions, ensuring identification and facilitation of reasonable adjustments and effective support for patients, their families/carers, UHS colleagues, and clinical areas.

Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities

Responsibilities
* Support coordination of planned and acute admissions and facilitate transition processes for young people with learning disabilities and/or autism, extending into adult health services within UHS.
* Assist the Learning Disability and Autism CNSs in monitoring, recording, and auditing service needs.
* Provide professional advice and develop communication and information-sharing links within the Trust and with external agencies, including teaching and collaboration.
* Support inpatient processes such as 1:1 ward support, role modelling, identifying reasonable adjustments, and referring or escalating to appropriate services, including advocacy, genetic counselling, palliative, and bereavement services, as well as liaising with community health and social care providers.
Experience and Skills
* Registered Nurse (Adult, Children’s, or Learning Disability) on NMC register.
Evidence of ongoing professional development and post-registration qualifications or equivalent experience demonstrating advanced practice.
* Experience working with children with learning disabilities/autism.
* Motivated and passionate about caring for children with these conditions.

Qualifications and Training (Essential)
* Registered Nurse on NMC register with evidence of professional development.
* Higher Education Institute-approved course in supporting learners in practice.
* Experience supporting and mentoring learners and colleagues in practice.
Desirable
* Experience as an NMC sign-off mentor or clinical practice assessor.
Previous or Relevant Experience (Essential)
* Post-registration qualification or equivalent experience demonstrating advanced practice.
Aptitudes and Skills (Essential)
* Experience working with children with learning disabilities/autism.
* Experience within multidisciplinary/multi-agency teams.
* Experience working with families, carers, and support providers.
* Effective verbal and written communication skills.
* Excellent organisational skills.
