Purpose of the Role
We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced Commercial Manager to play a key role in driving growth and profitability within a dynamic FMCG/manufacturing environment. The role is central to shaping commercial strategy, strengthening customer partnerships, and managing contracts to ensure both immediate results and long-term sustainable business success.
Key Responsibilities
Business Growth
* Build and develop opportunities with existing customers to drive sales and expand market share.
* Support innovation and product development initiatives by delivering impactful customer presentations.
* Deliver measurable growth within a defined customer portfolio while contributing to the overall commercial strategy.
* Establish and deliver an annual sales budget, including both organic growth targets and new business objectives.
* Partner with senior leadership to shape annual commercial plans and budgets.
Profitability & Risk Management
* Oversee the quotation and pricing process, ensuring robust costing and margin control.
* Lead customer negotiations to achieve mutually beneficial agreements that meet margin expectations while satisfying customer requirements.
* Take ownership of tenders, ensuring compliance and appropriate sign-off before submission.
* Proactively manage risks related to contracts, pricing, and market conditions.
* Safeguard agreed margins through accurate costing and seamless product integration into the business.
Account Management
* Act as a key point of contact for customer accounts, ensuring proactive communication on commercial matters and supply requirements.
* Share accurate forecasts and updates on product changes with internal teams.
* Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including NPD, operations, supply chain, and technical to deliver outstanding customer service.
* Oversee specification and development processes, ensuring compliance with industry standards and customer expectations.
* Lead feasibility discussions for new product opportunities or strategic projects.
Skills & Experience
* Strong track record in commercial management or sales leadership within FMCG or manufacturing (food industry experience desirable).
* In-depth knowledge of UK retail, foodservice, or wholesale markets.
* Demonstrated expertise in negotiation, contract management, and tender processes.
* Commercially astute with strong financial and analytical skills.
* Excellent communication, presentation, and relationship-building capabilities.
* Ability to influence stakeholders at senior levels, both internally and externally.
