Procurement Officer
Description
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Procurement & Lettings Solutions Officer to join our Temporary Accommodation service. This role plays a key part in preventing homelessness by securing quality private rented homes, conducting property inspections, engaging with landlords and agents, and supporting applicants into sustainable tenancies.
You will work in a fast‑paced environment, building strong partnerships and helping to increase the supply of suitable accommodation for households in need.
Key Responsibilities
* Procure private rented properties for a range of housing schemes.
* Negotiate terms with landlords and letting agents to secure value‑for‑money accommodation.
* Build, maintain and strengthen relationships with landlords, agents and property providers.
* Promote housing schemes through landlord events, cold calling, property visits and digital engagement.
* Carry out property inspections to ensure compliance with HHSRS and statutory standards.
* Work with landlords to ensure required works are completed prior to letting.
* Accompany applicants to viewings, assessing suitability and supporting them through the process.
* Assist tenants at sign‑up and provide follow‑up support to sustain tenancies.
* Conduct home visits as part of homelessness prevention and tenancy sustainment work.
* Maintain accurate records, performance metrics and document verification in line with procedures.
* Contribute to service improvement projects and communications plans.
Skills & Experience
* Strong knowledge of homelessness legislation, welfare benefits and landlord/tenant law.
* Understanding of HHSRS and property‑related health and safety standards.
* Experience working with landlords and agents to secure private sector accommodation.
* Excellent negotiation, communication and mediation skills.
* Ability to manage a busy caseload, work independently and meet deadlines.
* Strong organisational skills with the ability to plan inspections and maintain accurate records.
Desirable Qualifications
* Housing‑related qualification (e.g., Housing Studies).
* HHSRS training or certification.
Additional Requirements
* Ability to travel for viewings and property inspections.
* Willingness to work with vulnerable applicants in a sensitive and professional manner
