Join us as a Business Development Manager within Barclaycard, taking the lead in identifying, originating, and winning new business opportunities across our target markets. You’ll work in close partnership with the team of Relationship Directors to develop client strategies, structure lending solutions, and drive deals from initial engagement through to completion. Once relationships are successfully onboarded, they will transition to the Relationship Directors for ongoing management. This is a high‑profile and commercially focused position, offering direct exposure to senior clients and the opportunity to deliver meaningful growth in a competitive market.


Strategic & Commercial Thinking

Prospecting & Pipeline Generation

* Proactively build and manage a new business pipeline
* Skilled in targeting, qualifying and prioritising prospects
* Experienced with outbound activity (direct, referral, partnerships)


Consultative Sales & Influence

* Move beyond product selling to solution-led, insight-based engagement
* Ability to understand customer pain points and tailor propositions
* Strong persuasion and influence skills at senior stakeholder level


Relationship Building & Networking

* Build trusted, long-term relationships with clients and partners
* Develop networks to unlock new opportunities
* Manage key stakeholders across internal and external environments


Negotiation & Deal Structuring

* Confident in commercial negotiation (pricing, terms, contracts)
* Able to drive win‑win outcomes while protecting margin and risk
* Strong control of deal lifecycle through to close


Analytical & Market Insight

* Use data to evaluate opportunities, segments and performance
* Interpret financials, ROI and risk factors
* Apply market research and competitor analysis to decision-making


Financial & Risk Acumen (Critical for acquiring roles)

* Understand profitability of deals and portfolio impact
* Awareness of credit risk, fraud, and regulatory considerations
* Ability to balance growth vs. risk constraints


Execution Discipline & CRM Management

* Strong pipeline management, forecasting and reporting
* Effective use of CRM systems and sales metrics
* High level of organisation and time management

* Self-starter who drives activity without reliance on inbound demand

You may be assessed on the key critical skills relevant for success in role, such as risk and controls, change and transformation, business acumen, strategic thinking, and digital and technology, as well as job‑specific technical skills.

This role is UK-wide and candidates must be willing to be assigned to one of our Barclays office locations.


Purpose of the role

To identify and capitalise on business opportunities, expansion of the customer base, relationship management, and driving of revenue growth.


Accountabilities

* Execution of market research and analysis to support the identification of potential opportunities, market trends, and customer needs, to develop strategies for business growth.
* Identification of leads through various channels such as networking, referrals, cold calling, and attending industry events.
* Management of existing client relationships to understand their needs and identify opportunities for cross‑selling or upselling banking products and services.
* Development and execution of strategies to acquire new business and expand the customer base, including preparation of proposals, presentations, and negotiation of contracts.
* Collaboration with product managers, credit analysts, operations, and other internal stakeholders to ensure seamless delivery of banking products and services to clients.
* Forecasting of sales targets and tracking progress against goals, including regular reports on business development activities, pipeline status, and sales performance to management.
* Contribution to the development of business development strategies and initiatives to drive revenue growth and achieve business objectives.
