Education Welfare Officer - The Role:
We are looking for two Education Welfare Officers to join the Trust, each in a different hub location:
- Education Welfare Officer – Hub 1
- Education Welfare Officer – Hub 4
As an Education Welfare Officer, you will play a vital role in supporting children across our schools. Working closely with pupils, families, and staff, you will help remove barriers to learning, improve attendance, and promote wellbeing. Your work will directly influence children’s safety, educational progress, and future opportunities. Education Welfare Officer – Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor and analyse student attendance in line with DfE requirements, implementing strategies to reduce persistent absence
- Investigate and manage all absences (including medical and unexplained), working with staff and families to improve attendance
- Provide targeted support to vulnerable students and those below attendance thresholds, including catch-up plans and alternative provision
- Liaise with external agencies (e.g. social services, educational psychologists) to ensure appropriate support for students and families
- Manage a caseload of complex cases, maintain accurate records, and communicate effectively with parents/carers
- Prepare reports for senior leadership and, where necessary, support legal proceedings including evidence gathering and court attendance
Education Welfare Officer - You:
- Minimum of 5 O Levels/GCSEs (To include English and Mathematics at Grade C or 4 or above) Have Education Welfare Officer status or similar experience
- Excellent interpersonal skills and work in a positive manner
- Be a skilled negotiator, willing and able to develop relationships with professionals and families and present potentially sensitive information in a tactful manner
- The ability to manage a caseload and to prioritise work demands
- Enhanced DBS Clearance
