Based in the heart of Cambridge, St Catharine's College is looking to appoint a Housekeeping Assistant / Cleaner ,to join our busy, friendly Housekeeping team, providing a first class service for our college community. We welcome applications from individuals who may wish to work either full time (37.5 hours per week) or part time (min of 22 hours per week).
The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate the following:
* An ability or aptitude to clean and service college rooms using agreed methods and procedures: ensuring a high standard of cleanliness is achieved and maintained at all times.
* Good communication skills are essential as the nature of the role is customer facing and will involve contact with students, Fellows, visitors, conference guests and work colleagues.
* Be able to manage their own workload and work to deadlines which is particularly important during busy conference periods when our award winning B&B service is in place.
Key duties and responsibilities
* To clean and service College rooms using agreed methods and procedures: ensuring a high standard of cleanliness is achieved and maintained at all times.
* To undertake spring cleaning/ deep cleaning activities as and when required and to agreed standards.
* To observe and report any maintenance defects in accordance with college processes.
* To observe and replace any inventory items which need replacing.
* To observe and adhere to security procedures in relation to keys, property of students, property of conference guests and property of the college.
* To be aware of the action to be taken in the event of fire or any other emergency situations and carry out that action in event of such.
* To be aware of and comply with Health & Safety Regulations as laid down in the College Health & Safety Policy.
* Support the College's expectations around safe working practices, student behaviour and welfare matters.
* To carry out any reasonable task as requested and be as flexible as possible in order to provide an efficient service.
* To assess the impact on our environment of any tasks undertaken both on products, equipment or purchases. Forward any ideas for improvement of processes/products or actual achievements to the management team.
Skills
- Previous experience in housekeeping / cleaning preferred but not essential as full training can be provided
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently
- Excellent time management skills to ensure efficient completion of tasks
- Ability to prioritise tasks
- The nature of the job will entail contact with students, Fellows, visitors and work colleagues, therefore an ability to communicate concisely and exercise a duty of care towards student safeguarding is essential.
Working arrangements and salary
* Full time hours are 37.5 per week / pro rata for part time employees (which may include occasional weekends).
* Competitive annual salary of £25, £12.98 per hour) per year FTE / pro rata for part time.
* Team members may be deployed to work across any College property (within the city of Cambridge), depending on the needs of the department.
