We are recruiting for an Events Manager in the Marketing team in the London office at A&O Shearman. The Central Events Team delivers an end-to-end event management solution for client and internal events, with involvement in identification and planning of event marketing activities.
Role Purpose
The Events Manager runs market-leading global events with creative execution to differentiate our events from competitors. The role involves identifying and planning events, advising partners and senior business development colleagues, and implementing events best practice globally.
Role & Responsibilities
 * Deliver internal conferences in the UK and globally (100-500 attendees); global travel is required.
 * Lead client-related events with multiple partners from brief through on-site execution and debrief.
 * Assess the business value of events and provide guidance as appropriate.
 * Support the head of the team with strategic-focused projects.
 * Demonstrate expertise in event production, supplier negotiation, contracting, logistics, and delegate management.
 * Develop creative and innovative event concepts that meet objectives and budget.
 * Communicate with fee-earners to gain confidence in their events.
 * Ensure the firm’s reputation and values are reflected at events.
 * Provide qualitative and quantitative post-event analysis for ROI reporting.
 * Support all team members with client entertainment within the team threshold.
 * Support pre- and on-site event activities as required.
 * Promote compliance with the firm’s risk management and policies.
 * Develop best practices and maintain consistency in team documents.
 * Introduce innovative ideas contributing to strategic priorities through event marketing.
 * Stay informed about competitor activity, developments, venues, and suppliers in the events industry.
 * Line management of Executive level and below (one to two team members).
 * Lead on small to mid-size strategic projects in support of the head of the team.
Key Requirements
 * Experienced UK and Global events manager with at least two years at manager level.
 * Confident in developing virtual platforms and app technology with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
 * Relevant experience in event marketing at an equivalent manager level within in-house professional services or client-focused corporate agency environments.
 * Strong London and global venue knowledge preferred.
 * Knowledge of virtual event technology and delivery platforms.
 * Committed to demonstrating the strategic value of event marketing.
 * Meticulous attention to detail with high standards of delivery and service.
 * Excellent project management skills and ability to communicate actions and progress clearly.
 * Ability to meet deadlines and adapt processes to tight timeframes.
 * Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills with strong problem-solving abilities.
 * Strong interpersonal and influencing skills to gain buy-in.
 * Resilient and calm under pressure with the ability to work with limited resources.
 * Strong commercial sense, negotiation skills, and sound judgment.
 * Confident, friendly, and approachable with a collaborative attitude.
 * Encourages knowledge-sharing and learning from others’ perspectives.

 * Willingness to adapt to change and communicate it effectively.
 * Willingness to work additional hours when required (e.g., breakfast seminars and dinners).
 * Willingness to travel overseas for work as required (approximately 30% of role).
 * Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook; experience with events management software (e.g., Monday.com, Eventogy, Vuture, Dynamics) and virtual platforms (e.g., MS Teams, Zoom, WebEx).

Our hybrid working approach aims to balance remote working with in-office presence. Our current arrangement requires office-based work for a minimum of 60% of your time (three days per week for a full-time role) in accordance with our hybrid working policy.
