Are you a passionate Science Teacher looking to inspire and support students with Special Educational Needs (SEN)? We are seeking a dedicated SEN Science Teacher to join a well-respected independent school in Totnes, known for its exceptional pastoral care and commitment to student success.

About the school:

This independent SEN school is part of a national network of specialist schools and alternative provisions founded by experienced SEN educators. It provides a holistic and personalised learning experience for students aged 11-19 with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs and other learning challenges. The school offers a dynamic curriculum that combines academic and vocational pathways, supported by state-of-the-art facilities, including science labs, food technology rooms, construction workshops and a sports hall.

About the role:

As a Science Teacher, you will play a vital role in delivering an engaging and adaptable science curriculum tailored to students’ individual needs. Working closely with school leadership and support staff, you will create a positive and inclusive learning environment that fosters both academic achievement and personal growth.

Key responsibilities:

* Plan and deliver engaging, hands-on science lessons adapted to students with SEN and SEMH needs.
* Use creative and differentiated teaching strategies to ensure all learners are motivated and making progress.
* Foster curiosity and confidence in science, providing practical learning opportunities in fully equipped science labs.
* Work closely with teaching assistants, therapists and SENCOs to develop and implement EHCPs (Education, Health Care Plans)
* Promote a positive learning environment, managing behaviour effectively and encouraging student participation
* Assess and monitor progress, providing constructive feedback to support individual learning journeys

Who we’re looking for:

* A qualified Science Teacher with QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) or an equivalent teaching qualification
* Experience teaching science at secondary level, ideally within SEN, SEMH or alternative education settings
* Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to build trusting relationships with students
* A passionate and resilient educator who is committed to making a difference in the lives of young people
* A full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle
* A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people

Why join?

* Be part of a supportive and dynamic team in a school dedicated to transforming lives
* Teach in an innovative environment with excellent facilities and specialist SEN support
* Make a real impact on students who need a nurturing and understanding approach to education.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a passionate Science Teacher to develop their career in a SEN setting and inspire the next generation of learners. If you’re ready to take on this rewarding challenge, we would love to hear from you!
