Job Title: Quality Control Manager – Passive Fire Protection

Job Purpose:
To ensure that all passive fire protection installations meet the required regulatory, technical, and quality standards. This role involves overseeing compliance with third-party certification schemes, conducting inspections, managing documentation, and promoting continuous improvement in quality assurance across all projects. Liaising with estimators and Ops to ensure details are correct at time of Estimating and then ensuring they are installed correctly on site.
Key Responsibilities:
Quality Assurance and Compliance
* Oversee the quality of passive fire protection systems such as fire stopping, cavity barriers, fire doors, and intumescent coatings.
* Ensure all installations meet relevant British Standards, manufacturer guidelines, and Building Regulations (e.g., Approved Document B).
* Maintain compliance with third-party accreditation schemes (e.g. FIRAS, IFC, BM TRADA).
Inspections and Auditing
* Conduct regular site inspections and audits to assess quality of work.
* Review installation techniques and verify materials used are compliant, approved, and in-date.
* Identify and report non-conformances and oversee the implementation of corrective actions.
Documentation and Reporting
* Maintain up-to-date records of inspections, remedial works, and certifications.
* Produce detailed quality control reports for internal use and for clients.
* Ensure all project documentation aligns with certification and client requirements.
Training and Supervision
* Deliver or coordinate training for installation teams on quality standards and best practices.
* Support site teams with technical advice and ensure operatives understand quality expectations.
Liaison and Communication
* Liaise with clients, main contractors, site managers, and certification bodies on quality matters.
* Act as the primary point of contact for third-party auditors and external inspectors.
Health, Safety & Fire Compliance
* Collaborate with the Health & Safety Manager to ensure fire safety compliance on all installations.
* Support investigations of incidents related to product or installation failure.
Continuous Improvement
* Review and improve quality control processes and procedures regularly.
* Stay current with industry changes, regulations, and best practices.
Essential Skills & Qualifications:
* Proven experience in passive fire protection or fire-stopping industry.
* In-depth knowledge of relevant standards: BS 476, BS EN 1366, BS 9999, etc.
* Experience with third-party certification schemes (e.g., FIRAS, IFC, BM TRADA).
* Strong understanding of Building Regulations and fire safety legislation.
* Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
* Strong organisational and communication skills.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office and inspection/reporting tools.
Desirable:
* FIRAS / IFC / BM TRADA certified individual or equivalent.
* NEBOSH or IOSH qualification (or working towards it).

Working Conditions:
* Site-based and office-based role.
* Travel to project locations as required (full UK driving licence preferred).

Pay: £40,000.00-£60,000.00 per year
