Teacher of Humanities (Geography or RE/Sociology)

Full Time | Permanent | Basingstoke | September 2026 (or May 2026)

Teaching Personnel are working with a forward‑thinking Basingstoke secondary school to appoint a full‑time Teacher of Humanities, specialising in Geography or Religious Education/Sociology. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced practitioner with strong behaviour management to join a collaborative, supportive Humanities department and make a meaningful impact.

The role begins September 2026, with the option of a May 2026 start for candidates available earlier.

The Role

As a Teacher of Humanities, you will deliver engaging, thought‑provoking lessons that develop students’ understanding of society, culture, the world around them and their place within it.

You will join a passionate, close‑knit team focused on raising achievement, developing powerful Humanities learning and nurturing confident, culturally aware young people. The department actively welcomes new ideas, creative approaches and colleagues who want to contribute to a forward‑thinking learning community.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who brings enthusiasm, high expectations and a commitment to exceptional teaching and learning in Geography or RE/Sociology.

Key Responsibilities

* Deliver high‑quality, knowledge‑rich Humanities lessons across KS3–KS4
* Inspire students to think critically, debate confidently and explore diverse viewpoints
* Use assessment and data to track progress and close achievement gaps
* Maintain strong behaviour routines and establish a purposeful, respectful classroom culture
* Contribute to curriculum planning, co‑planning sessions and resource development
* Support whole‑school pastoral initiatives, with potential opportunity for Head of Year responsibility
* Promote inclusion, ambition and academic excellence for every learner

The Ideal Candidate

You will:

* Hold QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) or equivalent
* Specialise in Geography or Religious Education/Sociology
* Demonstrate excellent behaviour management and a calm, consistent teaching presence
* Show passion for the Humanities and a desire to share that enthusiasm with young people
* Evidence success in raising attainment across mixed‑ability groups
* Communicate effectively with students, colleagues and parents
* Be reflective, collaborative and committed to professional development
